Some of the season's coldest weather headed toward north Georgia; some snow also possible

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

A mass of Arctic air continues to push southward from the Upper Midwest and Plains states and is expected to arrive in north Georgia by midweek, possibly bringing some snow with it.

Lows in the teens and low 20s are forecast across most of the region, including the Gainesville area, for a couple of nights beginning Tuesday evening.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service also say there is a chance of a light accumulation of snow as the cold front moves through.

The snow is forecast to begin early Tuesday morning in northwest Georgia and push southeastward through the rest of north Georgia as the day progresses.  One inch or more is forecast for mountain counties along the Tennessee and North Carolina state lines.

For the Gainesville area and the remaining parts of north Georgia, along and north and west of a line from LaGrange to Gainesville to Toccoa, "a dusting up to one inch is possible."

The NWS says the lows in Gainesville Tuesday and Wednesday nights are expected to be in the low 20s, with readings in the teens farther north.  Daytime highs will be in the 40s in Gainesville most of the week.
