Heat Advisory remains in effect for North Georgia through this evening

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

The northeast Georgia region will remain in a heat wave, and under a National Weather Service (NWS) Heat Advisory through this evening.

Officials from the NWS's Peachtree City facility issued the reminder for area residents to stay safe when outdoors today.  Much of North Georgia can expect high temperatures over 95 degrees and heat Index values as hot as 105. Any weather-sensitive events during this time should have preparations in place for thunderstorm impacts. Additional scattered thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and evening could bring the risk for a few severe thunderstorms.

A threat of an afternoon thunderstorm also lingers in today's forecast, and increases in liklihood for the evening hours, north of metro Atlanta. The NWS advises that there is a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in effect for the majority of the area today and tonight, noting that includes a possibility of wind gusts of around 50 miles per hour and a secondary risk for hail.
