Everything turned out okay, but Hall County Fire Services (HCFS) officials said the outcome could have been very different if two anglers had not been wearing life jackets on Lake Lanier Monday.
HCFS Capt. Zachary Brackett said his crews were called to Lula Park around 3:20 p.m. to a report of a capsized jon boat.
"[We] had two subjects that were in the boat - it capsized, they went into the water," Brackett said. "They also had a dog with them that was still on or in the boat."
The two people on board the boat were able to get out of the water, but the dog had to be rescued by emergency personnel.
"We're transporting both subjects [to the hospital] for evaluation due to hypothermia, obviously, because it is very cold and the water's pretty chilly," Brackett said. "When [the call] came in, it sounded worse than it really was."
Brackett said the two people, thought to be fishermen, fortunately were wearing life jackets.
"The key takeaway for both these individuals is that they both had on life jackets, and without that life jacket on, who's to say what would have happened," Brackett said.
