Lady Lions win two over Cal Lutheran to start west coast trip

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Piedmont College softball team claimed a pair of victories over California Lutheran on Tuesday to begin a west coast road trip. The Lady Lions won 4-1 in game one and claimed a 6-3 victory in game two. 

Melissa Eckman gave up one run on three hits in Game 1 to earn the win as Cal Lutheran took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Lady Lions would respond in the sixth inning scoring three runs on four hits to take the lead and tacked on another in the seventh for insurance. 

Eckman also recorded eight strikeouts in the game while it was Haley Hixon and Becka Ross who led PC with two hits each. 

In game two, it was Madison Whiteside who picked up the win in the circle allowing three runs on seven hits with all three runs coming in the fourth inning. Piedmont led early with a run in the top of the first after Jessica Bagwell singled and sent Mariann Kennison home. 

The Lady Lions would add another run in the third inning to lead 2-0, but in the fourth Cal Lutheran would take the lead 3-2. It was once again the sixth inning that proved to be the difference as Piedmont would score three runs on four hits to lead 5-3 and again scored in the seventh inning as well.
