The Piedmont College men's soccer team was selected fourth in the USA South Athletic Conference West Division preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday.
The Lions received 25 votes, just one shy of Brevard and Covenant who tied for second. Maryville took top spot with 36 points and six first-place votes while Brevard took the remaining first-place vote.
Brevard, who is reclassifying from NCAA Division II, will be included in preseason polls and is eligible for regular-season championships honors but will not be able to participate in postseason play.
Rounding out the polls is LaGrange in fifth with 15 points, Huntingdon in sixth with 13 points and Berea in seventh with six points.
In the East Division, defending conference champions N.C. Wesleyan grabbed first place over Greensboro.
Piedmont is coming off a 9-7 season that ended in the opening round of the conference tournament to the third seeded Covenant Scots. The Lions will open the season on Sept. 1 against Bob Jones University at the Walker Athletic Complex at 7 p.m.
