Girls basketball: Lumpkin, Chestatee, Bluff, Gainesville, Rabun, Buford all win

Sabel Davenport scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Lumpkin County girls past Towns County 42-20 Tuesday night at home.

Davenport hit 12 of her 16 points from behind the arc.

MacKenzie Pulley added 13 points in the win.

“We did a pretty good job executing our defensive game plan,” Lumpkin coach David Dowse said. “We need to get better offensively - execution, decision-making and toughness.”

The defensive game plan worked perfectly for the Indians, holding Towns to seven points in the first half and 13 in the second. 

Clara White chipped in 6 points for Lumpkin. Ainslee Gilreath had 4 points, and Ashlynn Wistoski had 3. 

Kennedi Henson led Towns County with 12 points.

Lumpkin (5-0) will play host to White County on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m. 

Town County (1-2) will travel to Athens Christian Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

 

CHESTATEE 58
PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 24

Maggie McNair had 16 points and Emma Easterwood scored 15 points to lead the War Eagles past Providence Christian on the road.

“We played poorly in the first half,” Chestatee coach Sutton Shirley said. “I challenged the girls at halftime. They did a good job of responding in the third quarter.”

Chestatee responded to Shirley’s challenge opening the second half on a 23-0 run.

“We tightened up defensively, which really helped open things up for us offensively,” Shirley said. 

Christina Garcia netted 10 points. 

Chestatee (3-3) will play host to Johnson on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.  

 

CHEROKEE BLUFF 56
MONROE AREA 53

Chelsea Reece and Madi Phillips pushed Cherokee Bluff past Monroe Area Tuesday night at home.

“Chelsea made enough hustle plays to keep us in the game,” Bluff coach Lindsay Justice said. “Madi was also big for us.”

Phillips led the Lady Bears with 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to go with 3 steals in the win. Reece chipped in 10 points, dished out 5 assists, and had 5 steals.

Timber Gaither finished the night with 12 points and Maddie Thomas had 9.

“Monroe Area played us really hard and put us in some tough situations,” Justice said. “We have a lot of things to clean up. This was a good game for us before we start region play.”

The Lady Bears will open Region 7-3A play against Greater Atlanta Christian at home Thursday. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

 

GAINESVILLE 75
CLARK CENTRAL 49

Tija Blackwell led Gainesville's offensive explosion against Clark Central Tuesday night on the road.

Blackwell tossed in 29 points for the Lady Red Elephants. Tia Shelton and Lauren Teasley also had a stellar night with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

The Lady Red Elephants jumped all over Clarke Central in the first quarter, taking a 24-9 lead by the end of the first 8 minutes.

The game seemed to be in control for the Lady Red Elephants, but Clarke Central found some offense in the second quarter, outscoring Gainesville 16-10.

In the second half, Clarke Central tried to close the gap, but the Lady Red Elephants led by Blackwell, Shelton and Teasley, shut the door.

Gainesville (2-2) plays at Class 7A Marietta on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

 

RABUN COUNTY 85
STEPHENS COUNTY 39

Georgia Stockton and Brooke Henricks combined for 35 points to lead the Lady Wildcats past Stephens County at home.

Stockton led the team with 20 points and 9 rebounds. While Henricks poured in 15 points and had 4 steals.

Destiny Deetz had 10 points and 9 rebounds. Laken Stiles hit for 8 points and 5 steals, and freshman Sophie Woodard came off the bench to score 9 points. 

Rabun (1-0) travels to Walhalla, S.C. on Friday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. 

 

BUFORD 62
MORGAN COUNTY 36

The Lady Wolves had a team party Tuesday night against Morgan County.

Buford had 13 players in the scoring column and played the entire bench in the win over Morgan County.

Tate Walters led the Lady Wolves with 14 points and Preston Reid had 10.

Buford (4-0) will play Parkview at Wesleyan Saturday. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
