A subsidiary of a Hong Kong-based sauce manufacturer has announced plans to build a $70 million headquarters facility in Gainesville.

The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce announced the plans Thursday, saying Koon Chun will build their new facility in the Gainesville 85 Business Park off of Fulenwider Road in the south end of the city. The facility is expected to open in 2028.

Daniel Chan, director of Koon Chun's USA subsidiary, said Gainesville's location and industrial hub status made it a prime location for the headquarters.

"We are establishing a North American manufacturing headquarters in Georgia to better serve our U.S. customers," Chan said. "Gainesville-Hall County offers one of the highest concentrations of food and pharmaceutical manufacturing in the nation, along with the talent, training, and supplier network we were seeking. Its proximity to world-class infrastructure, including Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the Georgia Ports Authority's new Blue Ridge Connector inland port terminal, makes it an ideal location for our growth."

The chamber of commerce said the new facility is expected to bring up to 50 new jobs to the area. Tim Evans, president and CEO of the chamber, welcomed Koon Chun to the area.

"They were impressed with out commitment to workforce development through programs like the Quality Assurance Apprenticeship at Lanier Technical College. Koon Chun's enthusiasm for engaging in the business community and their shared commitment to supporting existing industries makes them an outstanding addition to our region," Evans said.

Koon Chun specializes in manufacturing Asian-style soy sauces and condiments, with products sold in more than 50 countries and regions worldwide.
