Buford mulls millage rate hike, final hearings are next week

Buford is looking to increase its millage rate for the fiscal year, representing a 4.75-percent tax hike for homeowners.

On Monday, Aug. 7, the city commission will hold its final public hearings on both the fiscal year budget and millage rate, and commissioners are expected to adopt both items after the final hearing.

According to a city news release, the proposed millage rate is 12.800 mills, and increase of .580 mills over the full rollback rate, which would be revenue neutral to the previous fiscal year.

Anyone wishing to comment on either the budget or millage rate may do so at one of two public hearings on Monday, both of which will be held at Buford City Hall, located at 2300 Buford Highway.

The first hearing is at 10 a.m. and the second is at 7 p.m. at the commissioners' regular monthly meeting.

The owner of a $200,000 home would see a tax hike of approximately $46.40, officials said.

The millage rate applies to properties in the city limits, in both Gwinnett and Hall counties.
