Jackson County has a new county commissioner, and Buford residents have a new $20 million bond referendum for the city's new high school, following Tuesday's special elections.
Marty Seagraves garnered 570 of the 715 total votes (79.72 percent) in the five candidate race to replace former Jackson County Commissioner Dwain Smith, who died in December at age 74.
The next highest vote-getters were Reggie Metheny (85, 11.89 percent), Eric C. Crawford (24, 3.36 percent), Wes Smith (21, 2.94 percent) and Chris Nichols (15, 2.1 percent). There were no write-in votes, according to polling results issued to AccessWDUN.
The bond referendum in Buford passed 153-4, and now gives the city a total of $66.5 million in state funding and bonds for the $70 million school, according to a report in the Gwinnett Daily Post.
The city will reportedly pick up the rest of the tab.
