Gwinnett commissioners deny permit for tattoo parlor on Buford Drive

Gwinnett commissioners said "no" this week to a proposed tattoo and body piercing shop proposed on Buford Drive in the Mall of Georgia Overlay District.

Leigh Tatum, the applicant listed on county documents, wanted to open the shop at Buford Drive's intersection with Cripple Creek Drive with six tattoo artists, a request that was unanimously denied Tuesday.

Tatum was not present at the commission's public hearing.

The Gwinnett County Planning Department recommended denial of the plan, a decision with which commissioners agreed.

"Adverse impacts could be anticipated from this request by setting a precedent in this area for a use which may be counter to ongoing efforts to maintain and promote the Buford Drive area," the planning department's recommendations stated.

No residents spoke for or against the request at Tuesday's hearing.
