SALEM, Va. — The Piedmont College women's basketball team finished off the Jean Beamer Tip Off Classic with an overtime loss to Washington and Lee 70-65 Sunday.

Piedmont was slow to start as the Generals took the opening quarter leading 18-10 over PC. The Lady Lions regrouped and battled in the early minutes of the second quarter to go on a seven point run with six minutes left in the half. Three minutes later, Piedmont took the lead over the Generals with a six point run putting the score to 27-25. The Generals claimed two free throws with no time on the clock to win back the lead 30-29 at the break.

After halftime, it was a seven point run by the Lady Lions started by Amari Price with a fast break layup. With 5:30 left in the third quarter, the Generals battled back within one and continue the scoring trend until one minute was left. As the quarter ended neither team could win the edge as they went into the final quarter tied at 42.

The fourth quarter was yet another battle as the two teams went to work as the lead would change five times in the period. Carlie Shields put in a layup with less than thirty seconds to play to tie up the game and send it into overtime.

The Generals would go on a six point run in the overtime period and PC was unable to get back the lead with the final score of 70-65 in favor of Washington and Lee.

The Lady Lions head to their second tournament of the season this weekend, as they tip off against Oglethorpe University on Saturday in Rome.
