Gainesville, Hall County schools not worried about gasoline crunch

By B.J. Williams
While some folks are scrambling to find gasoline in north Georgia, local school systems say they're in good shape with fuel supplies.

Hall County School District Superintendent Will Schofield said the system expects no challenges.

"The majority of our buses run on diesel and LP. No shortages of either," Schofield said in a Tuesday morning email. "We have 8,500 gallons of gas in the tanks for light duty trucks and vans."

Jerry Castleberry, the Transportation Director for the Gainesville City School System, said school buses will continue to roll in Gainesville.

"Our maintenance vehicles run on gas. All of our buses are on diesel, except for six small buses, so we're in good shape," said Castleberry following Monday night's Gainesville City School Board meeting.

Castleberry said the city also has a supply of gasoline for the smaller vehicles; there's a back-up plan for diesel.

CBS46 reported Monday night that a spokesman for Gwinnett County Schools told them that they had an 11-day supply of fuel. Gwinnett has the largest public school system in the state.
