AAA: Georgia gas prices down 5 cents on average

By AccessWDUN Staff

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Georgia was down five cents Monday compared to the week prior according to the weekly fuel price report from AAA.

The new statewide average was $3.33 per gallon. That average was 36 cents less than a month ago and 35 cents more than this time last year.

It costs about $50 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline under the new statewide average.

“Crude oil prices continue to decline amid market concerns that crude demand will fall if economic growth slows or stalls due to a recession,” Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, said. “Lower crude prices, usually lead to cheaper gas prices. However, hurricane season is underway, and a hurricane has the potential to cause a disruption to oil and gas operations.”

The national average saw a similar decline, down seven cents to $3.78.

In Northeast Georgia, Franklin, Rabun and Towns counties had the most expensive gasoline. Gas was about $3.42 in Franklin County, $3.41 in Rabun County and $3.38 in Towns County.

Dawson, Hall and Stephens counties had some of the cheapest gasoline in the region. Gas was about $3.07 in Dawson County, $3.17 in Hall County and $3.16 in Stephens County.
