AAA: Georgia gas prices drop 15 cents this week

Georgia drivers are continuing to see some relief at the gas pump. AAA in Atlanta said Monday gas was down 15 cents on average across the state compared to a week prior.

The agency's weekly fuel price report said the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas Monday was $3.89. That report was down 53 cents from June and 93 cents more than July 2021.

It now costs $58.32 on average to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline in Georgia.

“Lower domestic demand for gas, and declining crude oil prices continue to be the main factors for lower pump prices,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman with AAA.

Hall and Habersham counties have the lowest gas prices in North Georgia, according to the report. Hall County drivers were paying $3.87 on average for a gallon of gas, while Habersham County drivers were paying $3.83. Rabun County had some of the most expensive gas in the region, with an average of $4.15.

The national average for a gallon of gas was also down on Monday. AAA said the national average was $4.36, down by 17 cents from the week prior.

The Energy Information Administration reported total domestic gasoline stocks increased by 3.5 million barrels to 228.4 million barrels, showing that low demand led to a growth in inventory. AAA reported drivers would likely see lower pump prices this week if gas demand remains low as stocks increase.
