Georgia gas prices continue to drop

By Austin Eller News Director

Georgia gas prices have continued to drop following recent record highs.

AAA said Monday that Georgia's average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was about $4.18. That price was down 14 cents from the week prior, 25 cents less than a month prior and $1.26 more than a year prior.

A press release from the agency said it now costs about $62.76 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline.

“Georgia pump prices are drifting lower as crude oil continues to decline,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA. “So far, the decrease in crude prices have had a noticeable impact at the pump, but if crude prices rise this week consumers could see an increase in gas at their local stations.”

In North Georgia, Lumpkin, Dawson and Rabun counties have some of the highest gas prices in the state. Lumpkin County's average was about $4.39 per gallon of regular unleaded, while Rabun County's average was about $4.44. Banks, White and Habersham counties have some of the cheapest averages in North Georgia. Habersham County's average was about $4.08 and Lumpkin County's was about $4.10.

AAA said the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded dropped by 13 cents since the week before $4.68.

"Crude oil prices continue to face strong headwinds amid broad market concerns regarding the potential for economic growth to slow or stall due to rising interest rates and inflation," a press release from AAA said. "A lower economic growth rate than expected could cause crude demand to decline, leading prices to follow suit."
