The Georgia gas price average increased compared to a week ago.

AAA’s gas price chart shows that as of Monday, Georgians are paying an average of $2.96 per gallon, a three cent increase compared to the same time a week ago. The average price is also four cents more than a month ago, but the same average compared to the same time last year.

AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters shared the reason for the increase at the pumps.

“Crude oil prices have shot up, intense demand for heating this chilly season and fresh sanctions against Russia,” Waiters said. “Drivers should always remember that oil prices shape 56% of your gas station tab. So, pricier oil means your wallet also feels it at the gas pump."

On a national level, gas prices increased  six cents for an average of $3.12 per gallon. Oil Costs averaging around $80 a barrel contributed to the national average increase, according to AAA.

AAA recommended drivers conserve fuel by maintaining their vehicles to ensure the best fuel economy, combining errands to limit driving time and to drive at a consistent speed.
