ATLANTA — Gainesville's Spencer Ralston advanced to the semifinals of the Georgia State Amateur Golf Championship on Saturday at the Capital City-Brookhaven Golf Course.
Ralston, the ninth-seed and a Gainesville High graduate that is about to begin his collegiate career at the University of Georgia, held off 16th-seeded Christopher Harris of Atlanta 3-and-2 in the quarterfinal round. He will take on Luke Schniederjans beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Schniederjans, the 10th seed, beat Dru Love, the son of PGA golfer Davis Love III and a junior at the University of Alabama, in 19 holes in a suden death playoff.
Ralston stormed out of the gate against Harris going 2-up after the first two holes. He extended his lead to 3-up with a birdie on the Par 3 6th and the made 4-up with a birdie on the Par 4 10th. Harris cut the lead to 3-up by the 14th but Ralston was able to halve Nos. 15 and 16 to win the match.
Ralston is the highest seeded player left in the tournament.
