MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Piedmont College volleyball team fell 3-0 on Tuesday evening in a first round contest of the USA South championship tournament to sixth-seeded Salem College to wrap up the 2016 season.
All three sets were close at the end as Piedmont fell 25-23 in the first, but held a 25-24 lead on an Amanda Trotter kill in the second set looking to even up the match at a set each. However, the Spirits would capitalize on a pair of hitting errors to win three straight rallies and take a two-set lead in the postseason contest.
The 3rd would again be tight with the two finding themselves tied at 18, but another three-point run from Salem helped set the two apart with two of those three coming on Taylor Moulton kills.
Piedmont would make it a one-point game at 24-23 Salem trying to force a fourth, but the Spirits ended it on a block in the third instead getting the 1st Round win and ending the Lady Lions' 2016 campaign.
