MONTEREY, Calif. — The Georgia men’s golf team went 0-2 in its matches in the Cypress Point Classic on Monday.

Playing the prestigious Cypress Point Club, the Bulldogs dropped an 8.5-3.5 decision to Georgia Tech in the four-ball best-ball opening round on Monday. David Mackey and Trevor Phillips earned three points for winning the most holes overall (two points) as well as on the back nine (one point). The other half came from Spencer Ralston and Greyson Sigg as they halved the back nine with their Tech counterparts.

Then in the foursomes competition against California, the Bulldogs fell 11-1. Georgia’s lone point came as Zach Healy and Jaime Lopez Rivarola claimed the most holes on the back nine.

“We didn’t have our best day,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “We ran into two really good teams today, so we have to tip our cap to them. We’ll try to close out the tournament on a stronger note on Tuesday.”

The final round of the Cypress Point Classic will have a match play format and the Bulldogs will be playing against Alabama.

Georgia will leave California for Hawaii on Wednesday to compete in the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. Healy is the defending champion.
