The USA South Athletic Conference has released the sixth Player of the Week listing for the fall with four Piedmont athletes earning awards. Haley Hixon earned Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week while cross country swept the four weekly awards for the second straight week. Nathan Galloway again earned Men's Cross Country Runner and Rookie of the Week while Reese Bowles took Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week and Casey Todd was named Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.
For all three cross country athletes, this marks the third time earning each of their respective honors this season while this is Hixon's first honor of the season.
Hixon had an impressive week tallying 56 digs against a pair of conference opponents in LaGrange and Maryville. The sophomore leads the team in digs with a total of 353 this season averaging nearly five per set. Hixon is also second on the squad in service aces with 37 as she had five over the past week.
Galloway finished second at the Piedmont Invitational on Saturday edging out all the other USA South competitors running a 29:06 8k. The Lions finished as the top team in the meet that served as the USA South Preview for the Cross Country Championships on October 29.
Bowles won the Piedmont Invitational with a time of 24:14 while also leading the Lady Lions to a team title at the event. Bowles crushed the competition winning the meet by almost 30 seconds. Todd also finished well in the Piedmont Invitational coming in sixth overall with a time of 25:13, making her the fastest freshman in the USA South at the meet.
The USA South Athletic Conference announces its weekly honor roll each Monday and at least half of the teams in a sport must have competed within the previous week for honors to be awarded.
