FORT WORTH, Texas — The No. 12-ranked Georgia men¹s golf team finished third on Tuesday in the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club.
The Bulldogs fired an 8-over 288 -- matching the lowest round of the day for all of the teams -- to wind up at 11-over 851. Vanderbilt (839) edged Florida (840) by a stroke to garner team honors.
Senior Jaime Lopez Rivarola paced the Bulldogs on Tuesday as he fired a 1-under 69. Senior Greyson Sigg and sophomore Tye Waller each signed for a 2-over 72, while freshman Trevor Phillips registered a 5-over 75. Freshman Spencer Ralston had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 6-over 76.
Lopez Rivarola finished sixth individually at 1-under 209. The individual title went to Stanford's Maverick McNealy as he wound up at 8-under 202. Sigg and Ralston took 12th at 2-over 212. Waller checked in at 9-over 219 and Phillips landed at 14-over 224.
Georgia and Vanderbilt were separated by only two shots during the second and third rounds. The Bulldogs' undoing came as they opened Sunday with a 5-over 285 compared to the Commodores' 5-under 275.
"I was really pleased with the way our guys kept grinding," Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. "We dug ourselves a pretty good hole the first day. We hit the ball well, but we didn't putt very well. But our players never packed it in. We improved our putting along the way. I liked the fight I saw in them. We can build on that moving forward. We¹re having a solid fall and we want to close it out strong."
The Bulldogs will wrap up the fall in the Cypress Point Classic in California Oct. 31-Nov. 1, followed by the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Hawaii Nov. 4-6.
