By B.J. Williams

GAINESVILLE — Hall County authorities said Thursday a woman will be okay even though she was stabbed several times during a fight with her boyfriend.

Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes said the suspect in the case is 27-year-old Marvin Mangum, Jr. He and the victim lived together at the residence on Broome Road, where the fight took place. Bailes said deputies were called to the home just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"Mangum and his girlfriend were in a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical altercation," said Bailes. "During that altercation, Mangum, Jr. took a kitchen knife and stabbed his girlfriend in the upper extremities."

Mangum then ran from the residence, but patrol deputies caught up with him a short time later in the area of Pierce Road and Broome Road.

Bailes said the victim was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries and then released.

Mangum was charged with aggravated assault and was being held at the Hall County Jail with no bond. He was to make a first court appearance on Thursday.
