Gwinnett pizza place robber turns himself in

BUFORD - Gwinnett County authorities have arrested the man they believe robbed a Buford pizza joint and two other businesses in late March.

According to a release from Gwinnett County Police,Scott Everett Burgess, 35, turned himself in to Suwanee Police on Thursday. Police said prominent media coverage of the case lead to dozens of tips, and family members reportedly encouraged Burgess to turn himself in.

The investigation also revealed that Burgess was the suspect in three other robberies on March 25.

Burgess allegedly pulled out a gun at a Little Caesar Pizza outlet on Hamilton Mill Road in Buford and demanded money from the registers around 9 p.m. on March 25.

Police Corporal Deon Washington said once employees opened the register, "the suspect grabbed the paper bills and left the store on foot."

No injuries were reported and no customers were in the restaurant at the time of the incident.

Washington credited media coverage with Burgess' surrender.  "The Gwinnett County Police Department received over a dozen tips about the identity of the suspect," Washington said.

"The suspect was actually contacted by his family members and encouraged to turn himself in," Washington added.

Burgess has been charged with 3 counts of Armed Robbery and 4 counts of Aggravated Assault.
