Authorities seize pot plants while serving arrest warrant

GAINESVILLE - Hall County Sheriff's Office Warrant Division deputies, attempting to serve an outstanding arrest warrant out of Gwinnett County, found marijuana plants growing in a Gainesville residence.

The man facing charges for the plants is the brother of the female suspect deputies were trying to locate, according to Lt. Scott Ware of the Gainesville-Hall County Multi Agency Narcotics Squad.

Authorities said the arrest happened Friday at 1606 Vineyard Way, off of McEver Road. According to Ware, 18-year-old Ntumba Isaac Mubiayi was in possession of four marijuana plants in his apartment.

Agents got the call when deputies discovered the plants in Mubiayi's apartment.  He's charged with manufacturing marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Ware said the street value of the drugs was around $8000.

"That's based on the idea that a mature marijuana plant will yield approximately one pound of processed marijuana, and the going rate for a pound of marijuana is $2000."

Ware said the woman warrant deputies were looking for was apparently not in the apartment.

Mubiayi was booked into the Hall County Jail.
