DAWSONVILLE - Dawsonville's City Council has approved the rezoning of more than 152 acres of land for a proposed motorsports park opposed by some residents.
The council voted unanimously Monday night after tabling the issue twice.
Opponents to the Atlanta Motorsports Park planned in rural Dawson County dressed in red and outnumbered the development supporters, who wore blue, by more than two to one. Opponents voiced concern about noise and traffic, but the council was not swayed.
The project's developer, Jeremy Porter of Cumming, says the development will be what he calls ``a country club for car enthusiasts.'' The motor park is expected to consist of 3.14 miles of track broken up over three courses. Plans also call for tennis courts, a swimming pool and walking trails.
