GAINESVILLE - The parents of a Gainesville teenager who was killed in a traffic accident two years ago are suing General Motors, claiming GM was responsibile for their son's death.
The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Gainesville by Garland and Bonnie Reynolds.
14-year-old Matthew John Reynolds died June 3 2002 when the 1995 Chevy Blazer his mom was driving was struck by another vehicle on I-985 and overturned - throwing him from the SUV.
The suit alleges that a manufactuing defect made the Blazer susceptible to rollover and that a defective seat belt mechanism contributed to the teenager's death.
General Motors, in a 14-page response to the suit, denies any responsibility for Reynolds' death.
