LNS sold to Lavonia Speedway owner

By By Jeff Hart
CHESTNUT MOUNTAIN - Lanier National Speedway has been sold again, this time to a group headed by Lavonia Speedway owner Donnie Clack.

The announcement was made Thursday by track general manager Stan Narrison.

"The current group wasn't looking to sell the track but Donnie made them an offer they couldn't refuse," Narrison said on The Morning Show on WDUN AM-550.

The track has been owned by Dave Liniger since 1996. Liniger bought the track then for $1.8 million but no details of the sale price to Clack's group have been released.

Narrison. who is expected to stay on at the track, said despite the sale few, if any, changes are expected at the three-eighths mile track in Braselton.

"We're commited to running the weekly Dodge series and the new group said that would not change. In fact, fans who come to the track probably won't notice any changes at all. It should be a very smooth transition," Narrison said.

The track is slated to begin the 2004 season on March 27th.

The track was created in 1982 by local north Georgia racing legend Bud Lunsford, who sold the track to Patrick Shores in 1995.

Shores then sold the track to Liniger after running into legal trouble.
