Man shot and killed while camping near Lake Russell

TOCCOA - A man was shot and killed while camping at a northeast Georgia wildlife preserve over the July Fourth holiday. <br>

The 31-year-old Gregory L Foxen of Canton died early Friday after being shot with a pistol at a campsite near Lake Russell. <br>
<br>
Sheriffs deputies Saturday said that the death is still under investigation. <br>
<br>
The wildlife reserve in the southernmost part of the Chattahoochee National Forest. It is located in a remote section of southwestern Stephens County near Currahee Mountain. <br>
<br>
Authorities say the man was shot at about 11:55 p.m. Thursday. Fellow campers called police. The remote location slowed emergency response and required the use of an emergency helicopter to retrieve the man from the woods. <br>
<br>
The man later died at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
