By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter
The City of Cumming’s City Clerk recently received statewide recognition for his work.

The Georgia Municipal Association presented Jeff Honea with the Lifetime Service Award during the Cumming City Council’s May 20 meeting. The award honors Honea’s 45 years of service to the city.

The Lifetime Service Award is presented to elected city officials, city managers, city clerks, and
city attorneys who have completed 35 or more years of service before leaving office or retiring.

Honea, who began his career with the city in 1980, has served in several roles throughout his tenure. His service includes having worked in Water Distribution and Utilities departments before his appointment to  his current role in 1987.

“For more than four decades, Jeff Honea has been a cornerstone of the City of Cumming,
providing steadfast leadership, guidance, and mentorship,” Larry Hanson, CEO and
Executive Director of GMA, said. “His dedication to public service has been truly exemplary, and
GMA is honored to recognize Jeff with the Lifetime Service Award for his outstanding
contributions."

Outside of his professional duties, Honea is also known to be heavily involved within the Cumming community.

He served for 30 years as a volunteer worker at the Cumming Country Fair and Festival, was a
long-time member of the Cumming Kiwanis Club, and is an ordained Deacon at Oak Grove
Baptist Church in north Forsyth County.  He also continues to volunteer at the High Tower Baptist Food and Clothing Bank.

GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization based in Atlanta. The organization provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit, and consulting services to all of Georgia’s 537 cities.
