By Will Daughtry News Reporter

U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff will join Gwinnett County officials on Memorial Day to honor fallen veterans at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center’s auditorium.

According to Gwinnett County, the 22nd annual Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. and will see two service members inducted into their Fallen Heroes Memorial.

That includes U.S. Army National Guard Specialist Travis Jordan Pameni who died in July of 2024 in a non-combat related incident in Baghdad, Iraq.

Pameni was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 121st infantry regiment based in Lawrenceville.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Austin O’Hara will also be inducted. O’Hara died in a helicopter crash during a training mission near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Jan. 29 of this year.

O’Hara grew up in Lilburn and graduated from Parkview High School’s Marine Corps JROTC program in 2014.

The public is invited to attend the event. The keynote address will be given by General Theodore R. Scott, III. He is the commanding general for the 78th Troop Command in the Georgia Army National Guard.

Scott became the 78th’s first Black commanding general and leads more than 1,900 soldiers.

Officials scheduled to speak include Gwinnett District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden, District 3 Commissioner and retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Jasper Watkins, III, and Ossoff.

The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place at the Fallen Heroes Memorial but was moved indoors due to forecasted inclement weather.
