The first surgery utilizing a da Vinci surgical system was recently performed at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Lumpkin.
“Robotic surgery has a multitude of benefits, including smaller incisions, less chance of complications and a shorter recovery time,” Kevin Powell, MD, a general surgeon with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Surgical Associates in Dawsonville, said. “In fact, my patient was discharged the same day as his surgery without the need to stay overnight at the hospital. It’s the commitment to this type of advanced care that attracted me to join Northeast Georgia Health System earlier this year.”
The new NGMC Lumpkin campus opened in April 2024, along Georgia 400 just south of Highway 60.
The facility offers a full range of inpatient and emergency care, along with imaging, laboratory, and pharmacy services. It also provides various surgical specialties, including General Surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Podiatry and Urogynecology.
“We are proud to expand robotic surgery beyond Gainesville and Braselton with the addition of a surgical robot at NGMC Lumpkin,” Parker Long, DO, an OB/GYN with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group and medical director of robotic surgery at NGMC, said. “Now more people can benefit from the most minimally invasive surgical techniques without having to drive south into Cumming or across the lake to Gainesville.”
