HALL COUNTY - An earth mover shoveled the symbolic first dirt of Hall County's North Oconee Reservoir project Monday.
County Commission Chairman Gary Gibbs said the $16,000,000 project is funded by the 1994 special purpose local option sales tax.
"The reservoir will have the capacity of 7,000,000 gallons a day once it's completed," said Gibbs.
Gibbs said completion is expected three and a half years from now.
The reservoir that will help Hall County battle future water shortages according to Chairman Gibbs.
"Without question it will help in drought years because it will be a stand-by reservoir ready for us to pull on as we need to", Gibbs said.
The North Oconee Reservoir will cover approximately 141 acres when completed.
