For a second year in a row, weather ruled the night on the first chance for high school football in Northeast Georgia, but a few games fought through delays to get their opening games in Friday night.
Cherokee Bluff overcame a 14-0 deficit late in the first half to take down Lumpkin County in Dahlonega, 31-21. East Hall outscored Banks County in Homer, 42-21, while Rabun County blew past White County, getting to the 42-6 final score by halftime.
Chestatee missed a game-winning field goal at the end of regulation and had a miscue in overtime in a 14-7 loss to Franklin County. Gainesville opened the season with a 26-7 win over Marietta.
A number of games were postponed to Saturday, including West Hall's opener at Seckinger and Jackson County's home opener against Flowery Branch (both will kick off Saturday morning at 10 a.m.), Jefferson's contest at home against Marist (11 a.m.) and East Jackson's home opener against Winder-Barrow (7 p.m.). Lakeview Academy will host Lanier Christian in a Hall County matchup Saturday at 3 p.m.
