An apartment unit in Gainesville was damaged by a fire Tuesday afternoon.
A release from the Gainesville Fire Department said crews were called to the Carrington Park apartments off of Dawsonville Highway at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and found a unit on the second floor filled with smoke. They reportedly found an unconscious person inside.
"The sprinkler system kept the fire in check until other fire crews extinguished the fire," the release from the department said. "The fire itself was a result of a cooking incident that caused damage to the kitchen along with smoke damage to the rest of the apartment.
The unconscious person was carried out of the building and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation. No one else required medical treatment.
