If you happened to be in downtown Gainesville Tuesday, you may have seen an influx of people wearing badges.
It’s not a new fashion trend, but a state conference for the Georgia Downtown Association hosted by the city.
City of Gainesville Main Street Manager Nicole Parham came on WDUN’s “Mornings on Maine Street” Tuesday to talk about the conference.
“We’ve got about 250 people in from around the state excited just to come and learn about all things downtown revitalization,” Parham said. “20 years ago, we were dreaming about what we could do with the old railroad tracks and revitalizing what we now know as the beautiful Greenway.”
Parham said that the Main Street Gainesville program started in 1993 to 1995, with the goal to improve downtown Gainesville.
She also said that there have been people with other downtown authorities who she’s met at different conferences coming in and telling her they had no idea about all of the stuff happening in the downtown area.
“The City of Gainesville is hosting several workshops tomorrow, so we’ll be doing a trolley tour for that,” Parham said. “I’m excited just to show off some of the projects that have happened.”
Downtown Gainesville’s Facebook page also shared details about the conference, saying that it will be ongoing throughout the week with downtown professionals from across the state coming together.
