Gainesville Board of Education approves improvements to Ivy Watson Baseball Complex

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

The Gainesville City Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of land that would be used to build an indoor baseball hitting facility at the Ivy Watson Baseball Complex.

The resolution will allow the school system to purchase 1.13 acres on Lee Waldrip Drive from the City of Gainesville for $10, pending approval from the Gainesville City Council. Should the sale go through, the system would build the facility through a bid with Carroll Daniel Construction Company.

The proposed 10,000 square-foot facility would feature five full-size batting lanes, locker rooms, restrooms and coach offices.

The project’s total purchasing amount will be $3,625,291.55. The facility would be funded via the SPLOST VI program.

No official start date or timeline for the project has been released.
