Gainesville City Schools to hold public hearings for FY2026 budget

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter
The Gainesville City School System announced Tuesday it intends to adopt the full rollback millage rate of 6.092 mills for the upcoming fiscal year.

As a result of the adoption, the school system will hold two public hearings on the proposed budget to inform the public and receive community input.

The first public hearing will be held on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. at 508 Oak Street Gainesville, Ga 30501. The second public hearing will be held on Monday, Aug. 18 at 5:00 p.m. at the Gainesville Public Safety Complex at 701 Queen City Parkway SW Gainesville Ga 30501.  The meeting to adopt the budget will be held the same day at 5:30 p.m. at that location.

"We appreciate the community’s support the last couple of years as health insurance costs and other expenditures greatly increased, which were out of our control. As we move into the new school year, the Board was determined to propose the full millage rate, demonstrating our dedication to being good stewards of taxpayer dollars," Dr. Jeremy Williams, GCSS Superintendent said in a release. "While we anticipate using a portion of our reserves, we believe this rate will allow us to maintain our services and continue to invest in the success of our students and staff.”

GCSS said additional details regarding the proposed budget will be made available on the Gainesville City School System’s website prior to public meetings.
