A first grade student at Enota Multiple Intelligence Academy brought a pellet gun to school Thursday morning.
A statement that was sent to parents Thursday afternoon said the child brought the weapon on the bus with him that morning. Another student reported the item to a staff member as soon as they arrived for breakfast in the cafeteria, which was secured and reported to administration.
“While we are thankful that it was not a real gun, it is troubling that it looked very real,” the statement said. “The safety of our students and staff is our first priority... In that spirit, we are addressing this matter with all due diligence...It is important that parents impress upon their children that it is never [ok] to bring a real weapon or a fake weapon to school.”
School officials said the matter was reported to local law enforcement and the parents of the students involved were notified of the situation.
