Winder Police arrest six in connection to alleged drug deal that went awry

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

The Winder Police Department arrested six people in connection to a Friday shooting at Rose Hill Cemetery that left a 19-year-old woman injured.

The incident stems from a drug deal that went awry, according to officials.

The suspects included 17-year-old Keishod Hunt and four juveniles (two aged 14 and two aged 15) all from the Winder area who reportedly met 19-year-old Owen Sudduth of Watkinsville at the cemetery.

That’s when police got a 9-1-1 call at around 2 p.m. Friday reporting a woman with a gunshot wound in a vehicle parked on Candler Street.

First responders transported her for treatment, and that call triggered the investigation.

Police said that Sudduth, the driver of the vehicle, told officers he was meeting people at Rose Hill Cemetery to sell marijuana.

During the transaction, the men allegedly tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Sudduth tried to flee the scene in his vehicle, which is when one of the suspects reportedly fired a gun, striking the 19-year-old woman in the back.

Sudduth then drove to a nearby parking lot and called 9-1-1.

Winder officers along with Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies canvassed the area and apprehended five suspects believed to be connected to the shooting.

Police charged Hunt and the four juveniles with aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery. Sudduth was charged with possession of mairjuana with intent to distribute.

Hunt and Sudduth were taken to the Barrow County Detention Center while the juveniles were transported to a regional youth detention center.

Sudduth was released on a $12,000 bond on Sunday while Hunt remains in the detention center without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
