By Will Daughtry News Reporter

A Buford man has been arrested on 17 forgery charges after allegedly pretending to be a United Rentals employee to buy merchandise.

According to the Oakwood Police Department (OPD), officers responded to the Napa Auto Parts store on Mundy Mill Road on Aug. 8 at around 10 a.m. in reference to a fraud case.

Officers made contact with the manager who told them that 33-year-old Jake Daniel Dattilo was committing fraud at multiple Napa stores across north Georgia.

Dattilo was using United Rentals business accounts while not working for the company.

On Tuesday at around 10:30 a.m., OPD received information that Dattilo was en route to the Oakwood Napa. They conducted surveillance and followed Dattilo to a Gainesville Napa store where he fraudulently obtained more merchandise.

OPD worked with the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) to arrest Dattilo as he walked out of the store, and he is currently linked to roughly $120,000 in fraudulent transactions.

Dattilo was also charged with heroin possession, possession of drug-related objects, and theft by deception.

He is currently being held at the Hall County Jail on $26,000 bond.
