Victims from fatal shooting at Barrow County's Apalachee High School identified

More details have been released following the tragic events at Barrow County's Apalachee High School in Winder from Wednesday morning.   The GBI, in continuing with its part in the investigation, has released the identities of the four victims who died from the shooting incident.  They are:

  • Mason Shermerhorn, 14 (Student)
  • Christian Angulo, 14 (Student)
  • Richard Aspinwall, 39 (Teacher)
  • Christina Irimie, 53 (Teacher)

Nine additional people (8 students, 1 teacher) were injured and taken to various hospitals with injuries. The GBI adds that 14-year-old Colt Gray has been arrested and charged with murder as the alleged shooter.

The preliminary information indicates on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at about 10:20 a.m., Barrow County authorities received alerts about reports of an active shooter. Radio chatter from an Apalachee High School resource officer also indicated an active shooter. Within minutes, law enforcement was on scene. Once on scene, law enforcement immediately located Gray. Gray surrendered immediately and was taken into custody.
