Limited details are being released behind reports of weekend crashes in Lumpkin County, but Georgia State Patrol (GSP) officials have confirmed one person has died from an overturned ATV crash at Iron Mountain Resort, with the driver facing charges.

GSP officials responded to the Iron Mountain Resort on Saturday, August 17 after 4:20 p.m. to a report of an overturned vehicle wreck.  Upon arrival, investigators determined that a side-by-side carrying multiple occupants was doing donuts when it began to overturn. An occupant was ejected from the vehicle and crushed underneath.

A GSP release adds that a short time later, the driver fled the initial crash site, was identified by witnesses, and located within the resort property a short time later.  The driver was taken into Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office custody.

Meanwhile, Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard's social media page posted on Sunday evening that there were two people killed and a third person seriously injured over the weekend from the Iron Mountain area.  No further details have been released by law enforcement behind the other incidents, except that Sheriff Jarrard asks the public to pray for all involved.
