Prayer on the Square sees a large turnout

By Logan Landers Anchor/Reporter

Hall County community members gathered Thursday in downtown Gainesville for the annual Prayer on the Square event.

The festivities kicked off earlier in the day at 6:30 a.m. for the National Day of Prayer breakfast held at the Gainesville Civic Center.

Then from noon to 1 p.m., several hundred people gathered at the downtown Gainesville square to pray over eight general topics. Greg Sandoval with the event said it provided a moment of unity for the Hall County community.

"It starts with us individually," Sandoval said. "We see a drawing together, not only of individuals but of denominations and churches. That drawing just brings an encouragement to others."

Those topics included:

  • Government
  • Church
  • Family
  • Education
  • Media
  • Business
  • Military
  • Life

Each of these topics saw community leaders pray for a certain subject for three minutes before a bell would sound that would notify those in attendance to move to another section around the square.
