What’s Happening this Weekend: A look at events around Northeast Georgia

Those looking for something fun to do in Northeast Georgia this weekend are in luck.

With Easter Sunday just a week away and this being the first full weekend of spring, there are plenty of events to enjoy in the region. 

Here is a look at what's happening around Northeast Georgia:

EASTER EVENTS:

Event Name: Glow In the Dark Egg Hunt
Event Date & Time: Saturday, March 23, 5 p.m.
Event Location: Laurel Park, Gainesville
Event Details: Hosted by the Hall County Parks and Leisure, this will be a fun egg hunt for all ages. With nearly 50,000 neon eggs, the fun begins at dusk. Touted as the “biggest egg hunt in all of Hall County,” vendors, inflatables, and fun! Times are as follows: 7 p.m., Egg Hunt for ages 1-7 years old // 8:30 p.m., Egg Hunt for ages 8-13 years old. Event Name: Free Easter Event
Event Date & Time: Saturday, March 23, 12 – 2 p.m.
Event Location: Georgia Mountains YMCA, Gainesville
Event Details: The YMCA is inviting the community for a free event that includes bounce houses, lunch, face painting, corn hole, pictures with the Easter Bunny, popcorn, free Kona Ice and more. The Egg Hunt begins at 1 p.m.

Event Name: Eggstravaganza
Event Date & Time: Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23, various times
Event Location: Warbington Farms, Cumming
Event Details: Join in an egg hunt that is free with the park admission ($11.95 per person) Three and under are free. Visit with the Easter Bunny and characters. Also enjoy a “hey” ride, petting zoo, inflatables, jumping pillows and more. Easter Hunts are on Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday they will be at 11 a.m., 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m. Younger kids will have a separate hunt area. Prize eggs will also be hidden in the fun!

Event Name: Easter Bunny Photos
Event Date & Time: Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24, 1-3p.m.
Event Location: The Collection, Cumming, Suite 4120 next to Aria Salon
Event Details: Hosted by The Collection, you can get photos with the special guest of the day- The Easter Bunny! But you will also get to meet Cinderella, get airbrush tattoos, balloons, bunny headbands, crafts and more!

Event Name: Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office First Annual Easter Eggstravaganza
Event Date & Time: Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Event Location: Denmark High School, Kitchens Dr., Alpharetta
Event Details: Join the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) for an egg hunt, as well as vendors, food trucks, FCSO vehicles, K9 Demo and more! Bring your own basket. Times are as follows: 10 a.m., Egg Hunt for ages 0-5 yrs, special needs or special assistance // 11 a.m., K9 Demo // 11:30 a.m., Egg Hunt for ages 6-10yrs // 12:30 p.m., Egg Hunt for ages 11-17 years old // 1 p.m., K9 Demo // 1:30 p.m., Egg Hunt for ages 18+

Event Name: Bunnypalooza
Event Date & Time: Saturday, March 23 & Sunday, March 24, 1 p.m.
Event Location: North Georgia Wildlife Park, Cleveland
Event Details: Visit, cuddle and play with bunnies, chicks and other tiny critters. This is a perfect place to get those Easter pictures in. Dress in your Easter best for the photos, or just come ready to enjoy a good cuddle. Includes an Easter Egg Hunt and goody bag.  

FESTIVALS & SPECIAL EVENTS:

Event Name: 10th Annual Mutts on Main
Event Date & Time:  Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Event Location: Main Street, Gainesville
Event Details: Pet-related vendors, artisans, sidewalk sales, as well as pet adoptions with the Hall County Animal Shelter. Enter your own dog in the category of “Best Dressed,” “Best Trick,” or “Look Alike” for a prize. Meet the Hall County K9 Unit, watch a Dog Fashion Show, see some dog tricks and enjoy the Becky Simon Band Live at 2 p.m. See the full schedule online at www.exploregainesville.org.

Event Name: Sugar Hill’s 85th Birthday Celebration
Event Date & Time:  Sunday, March 24, 1 p.m.
Event Location: Broad St., Sugar Hill
Event Details: The celebration will include local vendors, food trucks and “one special surprise.” www.cityofsugarhill.com.

Event Name: Taste of Suwanee
Event Date & Time:  Saturday, March 23, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Event Location: Town Center Park, Suwanee
Event Details: Enjoy vendors, local restaurants, a kids’ zone with inflatables, games, face painting and more. There will be a concert with live music and performances. After dancing, stroll through the artist market from creative, local artists. Tasting and activity tickets will be sold on site. Hosted by the City of Suwanee and the North Gwinnett High School Baseball Team.

Event Name: Lake Lanier Boat Show
Event Date & Time:  Friday, March 22 – Sunday, March 24, Various Times
Event Location: Margaritaville, Lake Lanier Islands, Buford
Event Details: The weather is warming up so it’s the perfect time to think about enjoying the lake with a new boat! Come browse the boats and start thinking about summer.

Event Name: Opening Day at Dahlonega Butterfly Farm
Event Date & Time: Saturday, March 23, 12-8 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 12-6 p.m.
Event Location: Dahlonega, GA // Dahlonega Butterfly Farm
Event Details: 2024 Grand Opening Day! Food trucks, live music, a “Sip and Stroll”, as well as a greenhouse full of butterflies. Dahlonegabutterfly.com

Event Name: Acton Cumming Children’s Business Fair
Event Date & Time:  Sunday, March 24, 1:30 – 5 p.m.
Event Location: Fowler Park, Cumming

Event Name: 17th Annual Holi Festival
Event Date & Time:  Saturday, March 23, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Event Location: Cumming Fairgrounds
Event Details: Holi Hai is also known as the Festival of Colors and celebrates the coming of spring. Be prepared for an explosion of color at the largest color festival of Georgia. This event celebrates Indian culture with Indian music food and dancing. Free entry. Free parking.

Event Name: Spring Fest with Madyson Square Gardens
Event Date & Time:  Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m.  – 4 p.m. 
Event Location: Jefferson
Event Details: A variety of small business vendors, food, live entertainment, raffles and more will make this a fun event you don’t want to miss!  

CONCERTS:

Free Concert Featuring LeFevre Quartet
Event Date & Time: Saturday, March 23. 6 p.m.
Event Location: Gainesville, GA // Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church
Event Details: This is a free gospel concert for the community to enjoy. A love offering will be collected.

Event Name: An Evening with Chopin
Event Date & Time: Friday, March 22,  7:30 p.m.
Event Location: UNG, Gloria Shott Performance Hall, Dahlonega Campus
Event Details: Dr. Joe Chapman presents an evening of classical favorites by Chopin. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Event Name: Skynfolks Concert, a Lynyrd Skynrd Tribute Band
Event Date & Time: Saturday, March 23, 8 p.m.
Event Location: Holly Theater, Dahlonega
Event Details: This tribute band brings a truly authentic experiences, reproducing the best of Lynrd Skynrd.

Event Name: Interstellar Echoes – The Pink Floyd Experience
Event Date & Time: Friday, March 22, 7:45 p.m.
Event Location: 37 Main Buford, Main St., Buford
Event Details: Doors open at 5 p.m. Interstellar Echoes brings the sights, sounds and lore of the global music icon, Pink Floyd. Opening acoustic set by Dixie Duncan. Ages 21+ only.
