A controlled brush fire destroyed a vacant mobile home Thursday morning in Habersham County.

Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore said firefighters responded to the burning structure at 690 Bethel Temple Spur outside of Demorest.

“This morning, we had a subject come up to the fire station on Habersham Mills Road advising that he had a brush fire that had gotten out of hand,” Habersham County Emergency Services Capt. Matt Ruark said. “The crew from Station 13 came down here to find a single wide trailer that had gotten involved during the burning of the brush.”

Habersham County Emergency Services Engine 13, Engine 11, Engine 16, Tanker 13, Med 16, Med 21, Battalion 1, Captain 1 and Brush 13 responded to the scene.

Moore said crews quickly began to put water on the burning structure.

“At that point in time, we went ahead and started an assignment for this fire and crews came in,” Ruark said. “We dropped two-inch and ¾ lines and had the fire contained in roughly 30 minutes. There were no injuries to us or any occupants. The home was vacant.”
