After a Towns County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputy was reportedly shot during a traffic stop, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) got put on the case.
The GBI reports that just after 2 a.m. on Friday a Towns County sheriff pulled a silver Honda four-door sedan without a tag over on Plott Town Road in Young Harris.
The driver stopped but allegedly got out of the car and walked towards the deputy.
Officials said he did not obey the deputy’s commands, and the suspect was tased.
The tasing was unsuccessful, and the man and deputy reportedly fought for the deputy’s gun, and the officer was shot during the struggle.
The man drove from the area in the Honda according to GBI officials, but did not take the deputy’s gun.
The unidentified suspect is described as a white man, about 6-feet tall and weighing between 170 and 180-lbs. The GBI reports he was wearing a black beanie, gray hoodie, and black athletic pants.
Law enforcement and EMS responded to the scene to provide care to the deputy. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and his injuries are not life-threatening.
The investigation by the GBI is ongoing. GBI and TCSO officials ask the public for help identifying the man who reportedly shot the deputy.
