The Hall County Sherriff's Office warned residents Monday of phone scammers telling people they missed jury duty.
In a Facebook post, Sheriff’s Office officials said the scammers claim they are members of the HCSO and claim the recipient missed federal grand jury duty.
“The stories aren't all the same, but have similar elements, including the demand of payment to settle the, ‘missed jury duty.’ There have been requests for payment ranging from gift cards to online money transfer,” the post read.
HCSO officials said they never call residents about missed jury or court cases and never collect fines on behalf of court services.
The HCSO said to stay vigilant of scammers and talk to loved ones who may be vulnerable to the ploy.
