The Hall County Board of Commissioners Thursday evening voted in approval of a $3 million agreement that will secure three parcels of land for the Sardis Road Connector Project.
The county has acquired approximately 4.827 acres of right-of-way and 2.149 acres of easements for the connector project that kicked off in Jan. 2020. The project aims to create a connector roadway between Ga. 53 and Ga. 60.
The three parcels of land were sold to Hall County for a sum of $3 million, paid to the property owners, according to the settlement agreement.
“We're moving to a place where we'll be able to officially turn the project over to the state in the coming months now that we've gotten to a place where we've almost got all the right-of-way acquired,” Hall County Administrator Zach Propes said. “So this was a large, remaining parcel acquisition that we've accomplished at this meeting.”
A self-storage facility on the site of one of the parcels will be majorly impacted by the project. Hall County will reportedly become responsible for “awarding relocation expenses to those tenants in buildings” located on parcels 139 and 141, but they will not be responsible for relocating costs for those on parcel 140.
This acquisition follows a $215,000 intergovernmental agreement between the Hall County Board of Education and Hall County to acquire land for the Sardis Road Connector Project back in April.
The $3 million for this land acquisition came from SPLOST-VIII, according to Hall County planning documents.
