Chestatee Academy to get permanent driveway as Sardis Connector project continues

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

There’s been an update in the Sardis Road Connector Project.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), a permanent school driveway for Chestatee Academy on Sardis Road will open for school use on Monday. Work on the driveway will begin on Friday and continue while school is not in session.

The current completion date for the $85.5-million project is estimated to be Sept. 30, 2028.

When complete, the 3.55-mile project will feature a four-lane divided roadway, a 20-foot-wide median, and sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. The project begins at the Sardis Road and Chestatee Road intersection and extends to State Route 60 near the Mt. Vernon Road intersection.

When completed, the connector will provide a north-south link between SR 53 and SR 60.

The improvement at the school will enhance access to Chestatee Academy and reduce congestion.

It was reported in July by AccessWDUN that traffic around the Chestatee school cluster would be altered due to the project.
