Commissioners approve $215,000 agreement in Sardis Road Connector Project

The Hall County Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Hall County Board of Education to acquire land for the Sardis Road Connector Project.

The agreement involves two parcels of land near Chestatee Academy Middle School purchased as part of the Sardis Road Connector Project. The land has been acquired by the county from the school board for $215,000 which has been funded by SPLOST VIII, according to the narrative laid out by officials.

“The land acquisition is an additional right of way required for the Sardis connector, which will pass in front of Chestatee Academy,” Community Relations Director Stan Lewis said in email correspondence. “As a part of the road project, the main entrance to Chestatee Academy will be relocated to Sardis Road.”

The Sardis Road Connector Project is an effort by Hall County to reconstruct and widen several existing roadways in the area. Beginning at the Sardis Road and Chestatee Road intersection, the project will run north to SR 60 near Mt. Vernon Road. In total, the project is planned to impact approximately 3.55 miles of roadway, connecting SR 53 and SR 60.

Tuesday’s vote officially executed the intergovernmental agreement between the Hall County Board of Commissioners and the school board and will prevent any further condemnation action regarding the two parcels of land.
